Dear friend,
There's a story I've been carrying around in my head for a few weeks now. Today I finally sat down and wrote it out.
It's Bill's.
You know him as the man on the first tee — tee sheet folded, handshake like a vice, ninety years old and still standing his post. What you don't know is what came before it. His file is thinner than a ninety-year life should be, and the lines under prior service are all blacked out. Today I wrote what's behind them. A piece of it went out into the world; the rest will come.
Here's why it matters to me. The stories that move you are almost never the ones being advertised. They're the untold ones — and the heroes inside them are people you would never, ever suspect. The old man handing you a scorecard. The quiet one at the end of the table. Everyone you meet has pages missing from their file, and most of them will never bring it up. Ask anyway. That's the whole game we're playing here.
I also gave these letters more of myself today, which is its own kind of confession — a page a day only means something if the page is worth the ink.
And this is the part I keep relearning: a c1ub, a course, a business — they all test the same two muscles. Creativity and imagination. Nothing else is really being graded. The one who tests the most is the one who wins, and the bigger this thing gets, the more fun the testing becomes.
So today we told part of the story, and we ran another test. That's a good day's work.
