Some members arrive with a plan. Craig O'Callaghan arrived with a record.

Before he ever typed the words Dream. Believe. Achieve. onto a website, he had already spent a career putting steel around the most famous stone in America. His family's company put the scaffolding on the Washington Monument and on Grand Central Station. His first lessons in the trade came on the Statue of Liberty, working under his father on her restoration.

That is the kind of résumé that lets a man coast. Craig did the opposite. He pointed everything he learned about building at a new problem: people without a roof, and people without a meal.

This is his profile.

Who Is Craig O'Callaghan?

Craig O'Callaghan led his family-owned scaffolding and construction company, UBS (Universal Builders Supply), since sold to a private equity group, whose hallmark projects included the scaffolding of the Washington Monument and Grand Central Station. He co-founded the Live Green Company, an eco-conscious initiative built around sustainable business practice, and he is the founder of DreamBig.Life, a mission built around low income housing and food security. Before any of it, he won a national championship in lacrosse at the University of North Carolina.

Read that again and notice the pattern. A championship team. A family company. A restoration crew. A sustainability venture. Craig has never once built anything alone, and he has never once pretended to. That is the c1ub's whole thesis in one career.

The Scaffolding Years

Scaffolding is the least glamorous part of any landmark and the most important. Nobody photographs it. Everybody depends on it. When the Washington Monument needed restoring in 2000, UBS put the structure around it that let the work happen. When Grand Central needed the same, UBS did it again. Under Craig's leadership the company grew from its home base into London, Washington D.C., New York and South Florida. He has since handed it on: UBS was bought by a private equity group, and Craig moved to the next thing.

There is a lesson in that for every builder in this c1ub. The structure that lets other people do their best work is a business. A good one. And the people who build it tend to understand something about holding things up that the rest of us only talk about.

DreamBig.Life — A Roof and a Meal

Ask Craig what he is chasing now and the answer is short: help with low income housing and food insecurity.

DreamBig.Life carries three words on its door: Dream. Believe. Achieve. It is early, and Craig would be the first to say so. But the direction is not vague at all. A man who has spent his life putting structure around buildings is now putting structure around two of the oldest problems there are, and he is doing it from the one city, Palm Beach, where the gap between the people who have both and the people who have neither is impossible not to see.

What Craig is building toward
  • Housing — real estate experience pointed at the people the market leaves out
  • Food — the second half of the same problem, treated as one problem
  • Energy — his word, not ours. His locker card says he is open to introductions and energy. Bring both.

His own site puts the larger why in his words: a future where individuals and communities come together around peace, happiness and love, built for the generations after us. Big words. He has the construction record to back them.

Father and Son

The photo at the top of this page is not a stock shot. That is Craig and his son Gus, trophy in hand. Craig's site says his favorite thing in the world is time with Gus, on a golf course or on a soccer sideline, and this week he proved it the c1ub way: Gus took his own seat in The Country C1ub, on Craig's introduction.

Two O'Callaghans on the register. One of them wrapped the Washington Monument. The other is just getting started. We like those odds.

Why Craig O'Callaghan Is a Country C1ub Member

The Country C1ub has one rule: your story and mission matter. Craig arrived with a mission that is bigger than his business, which is exactly the order we like it in.

Mission

A roof and a meal for the people who have neither.

Business

A landmark scaffolding company, a sustainability venture, and now DreamBig.Life.

Relationships

Brought his own son through the gate. Shows up to the weekly table.

Belief

“Go for it. Never give up.” His words, on his card, in his locker.

Inside the c1ub Craig gets what a builder with a big mission needs most: rooms full of people who build too, introductions made on purpose, and friends who treat his mission as the c1ub's mission. When a member builds, the c1ub broadcasts.

Follow the Mission

And if you find yourself across a table from Craig, ask him about the Statue of Liberty. He was on the scaffold.
